For providers: Update on Cerner upgrade issues
Dear Providers,
We still are working on some issues related to our most recent upgrade of Cerner. Some of these are code changes, which are confusing, and others have required us to work directly with Cerner to correct.
For a list of the most common issues, click here.
Last Thursday evening, a correction was pushed to computers that we believe has addressed the majority of upgrade issues related to Dragon. If you still are encountering problems with Dragon, please help us track issues by emailing the PC Tag Number to trackit@rsfh.com. Be sure to include “Dragon” in the subject line.
The upgrade was necessary to meet regulatory requirements. It also fixed some known issues with Cerner and will allow some additional features to improve your experience, such as optimizing quick order pages, improving the discharge process, and refining documentation templates.
Please review this document, which has been updated with the latest changes to our live environment as well as additional features now available with the upgrade.
The Harbor Training Team will be providing a session to assist with any Cerner topics you want to discuss, including changes with the upgrade, in an upcoming monthly Cerner 201 classes. You can register individually or for your department group by emailing harbortraining@rsfh.com.
We look forward to working with you to determine how best to improve Cerner for your medical specialty areas.

For providers: Cerner upgrade on Tuesday, Sept. 18
Providers,
Click here to read the September Stoplight Report.
Cerner upgrade: Weather permitting, we will be implementing a Cerner upgrade next Tuesday, Sept. 18 starting at 9 p.m. until Wednesday, Sept. 19 at 2 a.m. This upgrade will improve performance for a better user experience, enable RSFH to meet regulatory and compliance needs in the future, and fix some documented issues with the current system. When the upgrade occurs, you may be asked to log off and log back into Cerner. The initial changes visible at go-live are subtle, and we do not expect them to be disruptive or confusing for your work. To see more details about the night of the upgrade, click here.
One hour interface and STAR downtime: While Cerner will not be down for the upgrade, Cerner interfaces will be down from 9-10 p.m., and work also will be done on STAR (our financial and registration system) and on the Corepoint interface engine. Doing this work within this one hour window will minimize the length of the downtime you experience. For more details, click here.
During the interface and STAR downtime, expect the following potential delays:
- Users will be able to document within Cerner only on patients who were admitted prior to 9 p.m.
- New admissions may not appear in Cerner until the interfaces are restored and data is backloaded from STAR downtime
- Discharge date/time entered in Cerner will update in STAR when interfaces are restored. Complete PM conversation as normal.
- Transfer locations will update when interfaces are restored. Complete patient transfers as normal.
An at-the-elbow support team will be rounding all facilities on Tuesday night, Wednesday and Thursday to assist with questions and triage any issues. Providers calling the help desk should use the dedicated provider line at 843-212-8000.
The upgrade will allow us to implement additional features, which enhance usability. You will see additional announcements prior to the upgrade as a reminder.
Change attending to: If you would like to designate another physician as attending for a patient, please use the “Change attending to” order. That order will change the attending in Cerner and STAR. Removing your relationship with the patient or deleting the patient from your list will not reassign the attending.
Thank you for all that you do,
Jeanne E. Ballard, MD, FACOG
