Reminders about N95 respirator use and decontamination

RSFH remains dedicated to providing all teammates and physicians the appropriate PPE to protect themselves when caring for COVID-19 patients.

Here are some reminders about N95 respirator use and decontamination at Roper, BSSF and MPH hospitals.

  • Only wear the model and size that you have been fit tested to.
    • Contact Sue Scheeler if you are unsure of your model and size.
  • Conserve our supply of N95s (hospitals).
    • Wear one N95 per COVID patient, per day.
    • Inspect your N95 and check fit each time you use it.
    • N95s can be worn until it is damaged, soiled or it is more difficult to breathe through.
    • Decontamination of N95s is happening at SFX, RH and MPH.
    • If your N95 fails inspection, throw it away.
  • Conserve our supply of N95s (non-hospitals and RSF Berkeley Hospital)
    • Inspect your N95 and check fit each time you use it.
    • N95s can be worn / reused until it is damaged, soiled or it is more difficult to breathe through.
    • If your N95 fails inspection, throw it away.
  • Send N95s for decontamination at the end of the shift by placing them in your brown bag and writing your full name and department on the bag.
    • Roper, MPH and BSSF only.
      • BSSF pick up is Tuesdays and Thursdays
      • MPH pick up is Monday and Fridays.
